God-The Master Gardener

Lady, Lady, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?

Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. Matthew 13:30

I was out in the garden yesterday enjoying the first real weed pulling session I have been able to do since I injured my knee earlier this year. My husband did insist on pulling a round of weeds about a month ago while I watercolor painted and watched him! Now that was difficult! Praise God for a husband who helps by pulling weeds, and time in the garden for myself now!

It has been cruel patience building time waiting to get out there and pull the weeds that I had to just watch take over the flower beds. Although I did sneak out there and pull the weeds that had the audacity to grow up to 4 feet tall! It was easy to pull those, I didn't even have to bend over. How obvious those rascals were! Manipulating their way into the life of a rose or lavendar or sage bush, weaving in and out and around trying to choke the life out of the plant and draw the nutrients away from the roots! I was able to get to the low grass and weeds encroaching the edge of the flower beds yesterday. The roots of the grass were even more trickly, they wove in and around one another and stuck together tightly to make it even more difficult to pull them out from where they did not belong.

The roses seemed to smile and say thank you for relieving them of such undo stress upon their livelihood.

Even the plums are happy, or maybe I'm happy to see plums!

It was a warm summer morning, and the sky was clear and blue with gorgeous picturesque clouds.

All this and a weed free herb and flower garden!

If only life could be weed free. It's not a surprise to me as God has already warned me that in these last days the wheat and the tares will grow up side by side. In this time when the heart of many will grow cold. Interestingly God says it will "grow" cold implying a time of "lukewarmness" exposing the Laodicean church in our midst. Like the roots of the mighty Pines who's roots grow deep, we are to grow deep in our love and communion with our Lord Jesus. We are not to be a shallow people who's roots come out easily like that of a tare. As the tares multiply around the wheat they seem to grow stronger but in the end it will be God who does the judging and the weeding. As we draw our strength from our Lord Jesus, our roots grow deeper, and our love for Him grows deeper yet! Have we learned to STAND in God's promises, and STAND on His WORD, and revel in the love He pours out upon us? Or do we let the tares choke us out?

I do so enjoy reading your post today :) Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Husbands that help us when we are recuperating are wonderful... I am so glad that you were able to get back into the garden and enjoy it - even if it was to weed, lol.

Oh, I know what you mean about a cruel lesson in patience while you watched the weeds grow! I worked so hard last year re-landscaping my back yard. I worked with the kids to keep it weeded and looking nice and then I got tendonitis in BOTH arms! I have not been able to do much of anything in the yard since last October. My kids do help out there and my husband some too, but they don't keep on top of it like we did when I was out there working on it too. It's hard for me to see my landscape job going to pot. I couldn't even plant flowers this year. Just had my daughter poke artifical flowers in out there so we wouldn't have to water and worry about dead-heading.
Oh, my the Lord must of have really thought I needed a heavy dose of patience and a lesson in humility! I was sooo proud of my yard work that I did a bit of bragging. Now I can't keep it up. My we do have to learn our lessons the hard way sometimes.
