Today in Christian History

1842
Scottish clergyman Robert Murray McCheyne wrote in a letter: 'Call upon the name of the Lord. Your time may be short... The longest lifetime is short enough. It is all that is given you to be converted in. They are the happiest who are brought soonest to the bosom of Jesus."

A stroll in the garden

The famous naturalist, Buffon, had once a large number of the wise men of the Academy of France in his grounds. They were all philosophers; and you know what a philosopher is. If you do not know, you should meet one: and I do not think that your appreciation of the sect will be increased. However, these were all philosophers, great men walking in a great man’s gardens—all great together. In the grounds there was a glass globe, and when one of these profound philosophers touched this glass globe on the shady side, he found that it was very, very warm, while on the side that was exposed to the sun it was comparatively cool. Herein was a marvellous thing. He called his brother philosophers around him, and I picture them as they gave out their various theories why this glass globe was hotter on the side away from the sun than on the side which was bearing the full blaze of noonday. One had a theory of reflection, another of refraction, another of absorption: I cannot give you all their words, for they were wonderful words, and wonderful theories, and they discussed, and discussed, and discussed, till Buffon, not quite satisfied with the philosophical conclusions which they had reached, called the gardener, and said, “Gardener, can you tell me why this side of the globe, away from the sun, is hotter than the other side upon which the sun is shining?” “Yes, sir,” said the gardener, “Just now I turned the globe round, because it was getting too hot on one side.”

Quick and easy Homemade pizza!

Just look at that gorgeous pizza, and it was so easy to make! My husband REALLY likes pizza!
So I was REALLY happy to come across this extremly easy pizza crust recipe at allrecipes.com
To make it quick I just start the yeast rising then put the other ingredients in the kitchen aid, add the yeast liquid and mix for 2 minutes while I gather the other ingredients. Place in preheated oven and bake. My oven, with a pizza stone, does well at 400 degrees for 30 mins. Just watch for air bubbles that rise and poke with fork.

Quick and easy Pizza Dough
1 cup very warm water (120 degrees F to 130 degrees F)
1tablespoon sugar
3 tablespoons yeast
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil
Cornmeal
Directions
Put very warm water into large glass bowl with sugar and yeast, let sit in on stove while oven is preheating.
Add flour, salt, and oil to large mixing bowl or kitchen aid.
When the yeast liquid looks creamy and risen, pour into the flour and mix for 2 mintues in kitchen aid or mix and then knead on lightly floured board for 4 to 6 minutes. Cover and let rest.
Prepare pizza stone or pizza pan or cookie sheet with oil and sprinkle lightly with cormeal.
Spread dough onto stone with floured hands.
Lightly coat dough with oil, and top with your choice of sauce and cheese and toppings.
Bake at 400 degrees F for 20 to 30 minutes or until done, as baking time varies with size and thickness of crust as well as toppings.

Praying for Haiti

We are still praying for the Calvary Chapel in Haiti
as well as the people of Haiti.
It was a blessing to hear on the mainstream media of the children singing and praising Jesus in the background
of one of the first media reports.
May we all remember to praise Jesus
in what seems like the good and bad times,
for He is worthy to be worshiped!

Happy New Year!

The year begins and the race is on to get to the finish line! It began the day we accepted Jesus and with the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives we continue to press on ever harder to the finish line, and do all we can to stand fast in the armor and when the battle rages or there seems to be a disturbing quiet before the next battle we stand some more!
Oh how reassuring it is to have the host of all the heavenly armies at our Commaders disposal, and a clear line of communication with our Father through Jesus when we are in need of help, Oh what boldness this instills!
Be strong and courageous, for the Lord your God sees the end from the beginning and holds us tight in His hand where no one can snatch us away! In our Father, In His word, In His truth, in His promises you can believe.

Why so downcast oh my soul?
Look up and believe in your God for He will never leave you or forsake you.
What do you do when the enemy seems to be surrounding your very soul?
Cling tight in your desperate need to the tower of your refuge for He cares for you and knows all! Trust Him!
After you make it through the refining fires, grab hold of another and point them to Jesus as they walk through their fiery furnace.
As you walk through the dark cold night of great storms in your life know that your Father guards you with a jealous love and can mend all the broken pieces of your heart and life!
Arise, stand, and worship the lover of your soul...Jesus, for the battles rage on, but...we already know who has won the war!
Praise God! (loosely translated...woooooo hooooooooo! )

Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Hebrews 6:17-19
